Just for the record, Hiro Mashima (Fairy Tail) was inspired and influenced by Eiichiro Oda(One Piece)’s works.
Unfortunately… I can never read or watch Fairy Tail without thinking, “HEY! I’ve seen that from One Piece.”
But out of all the ideas, designs, and concepts he’s “sampled,” I think he down right plagiarized Shanks. A super strong epic mentor figure with a missing arm(metal/prosthetic…whatever, it’s still a handicap), and the resemblance? They practically have the same face.
Fairy Tail is still a fun read and all… but almost all his characters seem so… “manufactured” and “BLAND.” These characters are introduced all together in one page, only to be defeated so quickly with only a light struggle.
It’s like, lowkey merchandising for more video game characters or toys, the way Tite Kubo does with Bleach and his 13 court guard squads Captains, 13 Vice Captains, 10 Espada, numerous Arrancar, and 10 Stern Ritter, all just mindlessly fighting each other for some terribly written reason.
Read One Piece… If you thought Fairy Tail was so great (which… I suppose IS, in it’s own magical way), then you’ve should read what inspired Mashima to write and illustrate many aspects of Fairy Tail.
